The Kite Runner; by Khaled Hosseini

My grandmother and I were talking about Kite Runner a few months ago b/c she read it and said it was great. She knows I like to read so she gave it to me...I read 4 pages and swore I would never touch the book again because its just not my cup of tea. Imagine my surprise when I find out we're starting the year with it in Comp II....yay for me! I would say the themes of the book are Honesty, Forgiveness, Redemption, and Adultery. The book has many themes because it's about growing up, and learning that the world isn't a nice place. The characters learned tough lessons the hard way, but it makes for good reading (for some people..). I feel like Amir had to learn to forgive himself for not saving his best friend/brother Hassan when he was being attacked. Through Hosseini's symetry in the novel, Amir redeems himself when he saves Sohrab from his life as a prostitute basicly and brings him to America and raises him as a son. This is how he lets himself let go of what happened all those years ago to Hassan. This is probably my favorite part about the whole book.
